Shiva
Shiva statue 9 .5"
Shiva seen as lord of the Dance holding the drum of trance meditation and trampling the dwarf of ignorance
. His mystic dance of transcendence, to which all living things must succumb, determines the rhythm of the worlds. He is surrounded by the womb shaped fire universe and dances the world into existence.
One of the supreme gods of the Hindu pantheon, third deity of the triad of which Brahma and Vishnu are the other two. He represents the principle of destruction and regeneration that follows it and has countless forms and names. His main symbolic representation is the lingam -- a phallic column. His female counterpart occurs in many avatars: Parvati, Kali and Shakti.
Shiva's home is on the holy Mount Kailasa in the Himalayas, from which flows the waters of life and the four Holy rivers. Although he loves mankind and is determined to destroy evil in the world, he often remains aloof and detached from the concerns of people.

Shiva Nataraj 6" brass
Shiva-Nataraj: The Dancer of Creation.
Here the androgynous Lord of both joy and sorrow dances the great continuing cycle which symbolizes life's ebb and flow, the intricate balance between form and void. Surrounded by a whirling flame of cosmic energy, Nataraj tramples upon the demon of spiritual ignorance. In upper right hand is held a small twirling drum which hums the rhythm of creation; in upper left hand is a ball of flame connoting the corollary act of destruction. The lower right hand gestures "Do not be afraid," while the lower left points the way out of neurotic bondage, toward the foot raised in freedom above ignorance.

Shiva Shakti statue 12"
The spousal pair Shiva-Shakti (Yab-Yum) is a tantric consort image
. At once the most sacred and the most mysterious path to higher consciousness, tantra is the Sacred Union of opposites. Taoists refer to these energies as yin (from yoni, i.e., the receptive principle) and yang (the active principle). Bly, Jung and Nin point out that each individual must achieve an inner marriage of their masculine and feminine natures to encounter true balance. Hindu consort pairs epitomizing this psychic symbolism are superb representations of the social, sexual and sacred interconnectedness of women and men. This conjunction of Shiva and Shakti expresses the sacredness of sexuality as a path to spiritual union.

Parvati statue 7"
Parvati the Mountain Mother Goddess.
Parvati is the consort of Shiva with whom she is often portrayed as an idealized divine family, along with their children Ganesh and Skanda. Parvati is a very benevolent goddess who absorbs Shiva's spiritual and sexual energy and releases it in the world for the benefit of all. Glowing skinned, Parvati is the daughter of the Himalayas. In this beautifully adorned image, she stands with right hand raised as if holding a flower.
