The Divine Ecstatic. He is the eighth incarnation of the beneficent, earth-preserving god Vishnu, and the major focus of bhakti, or devotional worship, in Hindu culture. Krishna represents the highest spiritual law: Godhead is Love, Love is Godhead. His devotees liken themselves to his flute, played upon by the breath of God. When he was a baby (Nadugopal) he mischievously stole the milk of divine wisdom. Like Christ the good shepherd, Krishna Gopala the divine cowherd is the protector and lover of all sentient life. The Divine Lovers. Radha - Krishna Represents humanity's longing for Union with the Absolute. Radha, Krishna 's consort and favorite among the gopis, is portrayed standing contiguous with her flute-playing Beloved in a posture of adoration and inseparability. Yet in Vaishnavite devotional texts, Radha is the incarnation of purity and wisdom and hence Krishna's earthly mentor. In folk culture she is revered as the Supreme Mother, the redeemer from ignorance. The devout bhakta seeks complete identification with Radha in her achievement of Divine Union.
